HELLO!
I have been working as a professional actress for 20+ years, and as a theatre educator and director for 13 years. I began teaching full time at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in the Fall of 2017, and recently moved back to NY for a position as the Director of the Theatre Program at Elmira College. Previously, I lived in Philadelphia, PA where I taught acting, musical theatre, voice and speech, and general theatre courses in a number of university theatre programs.
I am engaged in antiracist work, deconstructing and decolonizing my teaching/acting pedagogy and curriculum. Uplifting and encouraging bodies and voices of historically marginalized groups, especially those of my students, is vital and ongoing. I have a deep love for teaching. I believe students of theatre require a multiplicity of training techniques, tools and styles, broad knowledge of the humanities, acute awareness of their bodies, voices, personal experiences and behaviors from which to shape their craft. I blend compassion, empathy, creativity, and a strong sense of practicality to create a safe and productive learner-centered environment.
In addition to university courses, I teach private acting workshops and coach individuals for auditions. Currently, I serve as the Newsletter Editor for the National Alliance of Acting Teachers. I worked for MICHA-The Michael Chekhov Association as Production Manager for Workshops, Memberships Coordinator and Assistant to the Managing Director from 2014-2019, and continue to study and practice with MICHA. As a performer, I have worked on stage and screen with leading industry professionals, including: Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, Bob Balaban, Christopher Durang, Kristin Chenoweth, Mary-Mitchell Campbell and many others.
